So 2022 US ad revenue was 2.4 billion, and he said that would be down 60% in 2023. So roughly 1 billion in US revenue.
He also said they were on track to post 3 billion in revenue for the year.
Advertising revenue from outside the US was 2 billion in 2022.
This would mean that advertising revenue from outside the US hasn’t been affected anywhere near as significantly as US advertising revenue.
If twitter’s usefulness or value as an advertising platform had decreased that significantly, wouldn’t we be seeing a significant decrease in all advertising revenue, and not just from the US?
We know it's not worth taking Musk's statements as honest so let's lay that aside. It's quite worrying how far towards "There's a shadowy cabal of Jews out to get me" he's coming. I think you can argue about how he phrased it as to whether what he said is just direct anti-semitism, but I think that's pretty academic because this is just part of a longer worrying direction and whether this was anti-semitic or not, it's kind of like well it doesn't matter because I'm fairly sure the next thing will be worse...
My theory is a lot of companies stopped selling ads on Twitter right before the purchase because they didn't know what would happen to the site. They didn't want to risk their brand being on the site.
They then spent that money on ads at Google, Meta, Tiktok ect. and they found out that their money was better spent with them because of how good these platforms are at serving ads.
They haven't come back because Twitter Ads are still trash.
The problem with Twitter is their ad platform isn't anywhere near comparable to Google and Meta. No one want to sell ads on a platform that also sells ads for scams, some of these scams ads use the X brand name in them lmfao.
