Ask HN: Are there any manufacturing co-ops/shared services groups in the US?

5 pointsby syedkarimover 1 year ago
It seems like farmers are successful with the cooperative, shared services model. Is there anything similar for electronics manufacturing and light assembly? What I mean is a manufacturing facility that a bunch of small hardware companies collectively own for the purpose of producing products for the members. Right now the only options are to manufacture in China or use an American contractor manufacturer. Small hardware companies don't generally have the volume to support in-house manufacturing.
