Ask HN: How do you handle pricing for mobile version versus web version?

4 pointsby DtNZNkLNover 1 year ago
We're adding a paywall to our app. We have a web version and a mobile app and users can move between the two. Both Google and Apple require in-app subscriptions and they take a 15% and 30% cut respectively. They don't allow you to force or even encourage users to pay via web.
Obviously, we want as many users as possible to subscribe on web, but we know that many users will still subscribe within the app, resulting in Google and Apple taking their hefty cut. We're trying to decide if we should charge different prices for mobile v. web subscriptions or charge the same price and eat the 15%/30% in-app subscription fees.
I think there are enough other companies out there who face the same situation, so I'm hoping to learn what others have done and whether there are some best practices.
Thank you in advance!
