Trying the app out. Initial thoughts:
- It's not on the appstore (yet?), so I am going down a risky path requiring trust in a website.
- Hmm it's nagging me about backups and needing access to my storage... oh and it wants a password? But I don't want my backup password protected...
- Great interface though!
- Where can I import my existing subscriptions?
- It's slow to search my enabled platforms, but not too bad.
- Video playback is instant and seems to be blocking ads by default (is that a good thing for content creators, big philosophical question?)
- Chat and all the extra options and less-opinionatedness is great for me, but would be over a normy's head
- Playback is supported with the screen off, what I would expect, and great! Sorry youtube red.
- This came at the best time now that youtube is detecting ad blockers in my region... intentional?
- I wish this was on PC/browser as well
- Okay, I'm ready to pay... how? The option to pay is non-existent in this release seemingly
- How does this benefit content creators currently making a living from the specific platforms through ads? Seems like it would jeopardize their existence if this took a significant share of viewers.
Their plugin system is interesting, they embedded a V8 engine to run JavaScript to then make some api calls to the various platforms. I am 99% sure this is against each platform ToS and that they will get sued by Twitch, YouTube, etc. Especially since they are asking people to pay. But I wish they good luck!
