Arrogance Squashes Good Ideas

1 pointsby hjkmover 1 year ago
Thought of the day.
Where two people think differently about something, the most arrogant usually gets their way.
Their ideas aren’t necessarily better. They just feel more confident and are less likely to back down.
They often repeatedly place the burden of proof on the other person:
“Justify to me why we should roll with your idea / why we shouldn’t roll with mine”.
If they’re not satisfied, the expectation is their idea wins by default.
The problem is far worse where they're more senior.
Besides being frustrating for the people involved, it leads to way worse outcomes for businesses and their products.
This is something I’ve come across time and time again.
It’s toxic and needs to be routed out.
What are your experiences with / solutions to this?

Have a side project.
If you are the jerk it might give you confidence to accept mistakes and valuing other’s time.
If you are not, then you can channel your creativity there, which will help you accept that you get paid to do what your boss wants. Practically speaking, propose an alternative only once.
