Apple abuses their stranglehold on iMessage to engage in anticompetitive behavior. I wrestled with it all morning.<p>They recently started forcing everyone to pay for iCloud to keep iMessage working. They hide it under the illusion of choice but it’s impossible to use iMessage and not pay.<p>Their monopoly locks their users into the ecosystem preventing them from choosing a better device or a device at a better price. If iMessage worked across platforms I’d leave the iPhone ecosystem today.<p>I’m still tempted to do it and just switch to signal. The framework laptop is user serviceable something Apple refuses to embrace. I only wish the only other phone option wasn’t Google the other dickhead in the room.
