$350 is pretty reasonable for a specialist on something like GPU optimization… For an application like machine learning, just 5–10 hours could save you a gigantic amount of money.<p>With that said, I would never hire this person in 1000 years, because of their attitude. There is no shortage of smart consultants out there, even for niches like bare metal GPU coding.
Well, that's interesting... I assume there are many people with quite unique and valuable skills here on HN. It's table stakes, really.<p>I assume you're the same type of person as me, one who is a "mapper", and will NOT EVER let technology fail to bend to your will. Persistence hunting in the technology space is something rare, but very useful, when applied correctly.
