What's the Future of Unified Cloud Storage?

1 pointsby celicooover 1 year ago
Hey, HN community!
As we increasingly ascend to the cloud, the amount of data multiplying across different cloud storage providers is staggering. It got me wondering: Where are we at the stage of Unified Cloud Storage? And where do we see this technology advancing? From Dropbox to Google Drive, from AWS S3 to Azure... we all have got data spread across so many different platforms. While they're all fantastic in their specific domains, managing multiple interfaces, protocols and credentials can become a bit cumbersome. I dreamt of a single unified interface from where I could connect and manage multiple cloud providers seamlessly. A central hub that makes things easier, quicker, more efficient. I am definitely attracted to this idea and am exploring the concept of a multi-cloud storage management solution. But I would love to hear your thoughts. 1. Do you personally see a need for a unified cloud storage interface? 2. What challenges do you face managing multiple cloud storage providers? 3. Which features would you find most useful in a unified solution for cloud storage? Your experiences, insights, and ideas regarding such a tool would be invaluable! Look forward to hearing your thoughts!

Yes, we need a unified API layer like OpenDAL: https://github.com/apache/incubator-opendal
