Ask HN: Where can I find a technical founder?

2 pointsby tranchmsover 1 year ago
I’m 37 years old and am determined to start a business. My entire career has been in business, and specifically B2B sales, revenue operations, client service, and engagement management, working in the engineering, manufacturing, and management consulting industry. I have grinded hard and have had success, but I want to build a business that I own.
I’m not an engineering or product guy. I can market and sell and generate revenue and build and organize a business processes and systems to scale, but I don’t have experience creating a product or service.
I’ve helped a half dozen close friends start up their business by setting up the sales and marketing operations and business systems. These friends had partners or were more business oriented themselves, so it was not the ideal partnership.
I feel I would be successful partnering with someone who is technical, who is great at building a product, and has a desire to work for themselves.
Where do I find or network with these individuals?
I would like to understand how to meet other people who maybe are very technical, but aren’t business or sales savvy, or feel they would be more successful partnering with someone who is.
Where do you recommend I start?

What are you offering apart from general sales/marketing experience? Do you have an idea for a business? Are you looking to meet someone technical who has a product idea or just a technical person period? If the former you could look in places where founders typically announce their projects/startups - askhn, producthunt, yc website etc. You would then contact them offering very specific ways you could help and be of value. If the latter, local meetups for developers are good places to find technical people but keep in mind offering not much more than vague and generic business skills is not offering a lot and not likely to impress most technical founders who already tend to undervalue such skills and/or overestimate their own abilities in those areas.

A local incubator might be a good start.
