I have been visiting produchunt.com to explore new products for nearly four years straight; every day, I rarely skip a day. I read stories on Twitter about shiny apps built by great and successful founders that make a lot of money. On the other hand, I see a lot of people struggling to earn even a dollar. Some of them keep lying to get more engagement and followers, but a few tell the truth. The truth is that it is hard to build a sustainable product that pays the bills and allows a comfortable life. There are two ways: either build a VC-funded company, try to find product-market fit, and grow your customer base, or build a bootstrapped one and play the survivorship game by generating real money.
I feel like Twitter has become the new Instagram where everyone wants to be the next Zuckerberg or Elon. It sucks. It puts the new generation under pressure to become successful, and I hate that. I entered this game, and I can't stop myself from thinking of the best idea, but I failed before building one because I want to find the best of the best in the world. My expectations have become even higher, leading me to live a stressful life and not getting even a real job. I am living in a fake dream created by my mind over the years. I stop every time when achieving 70% of any idea to build a new shiny idea. I think I'm crazy. Is it perfectionism? Do I need to visit a doctor? Maybe not. I think building B2C will make me famous and generate a lot of money, and I'd like to work on it for years. But over the years, I've learned the truth: people do not talk about their failures, only about success. Few succeed, others fail and try to sell courses (bla bla bla...). Many successful companies like Facebook, Google, Instagram were created at the right time when the sharing culture was new and everyone wanted to look/be famous. I don't know; maybe I am wrong. Things become more and more difficult because of competition, and user expectations become higher and higher. The big players control the market, and if you want to be one of them, they will try to buy your company. I don't mean that there is not more innovation, but if you want to go big, you should make partnerships like we see with OpenAI and Microsoft.
I've come to a conclusion that we will be dead in a few years. Why not live a less stressful life? How? I read stories about people building boring apps and generating enough money to pay the bills and live a comfortable life with their families. Boring apps are mostly B2B. I know maybe the growth will be slow, and there will be struggles to get customers. I think if your product saves your customers money/time for their business, they don't mind using your product. Trying to be famous and successful in the digital world will kill us. I am not against innovation or building great things, but I think that the new generation is being put into a hamster wheel, trying to be the next Elon while sacrificing their time, family, and health. Perfectionism will be the next disease(and you will end up using a B2C meditation app that sells 'bla bla bla...' The truth is that our meditation is beloved by our family and friends, coupled with going to the gym, eating well, and paying the bills ). Sorry for the long post; these are random thoughts I want to share with you guys. I may or may not be right, but I'd love to hear from your experiences. Please <3
