Except that a dynamically updating copyright year <i>without any work having been done</i> may not be legally valid, ie there was no copyrightable step taken... (IANAL)

To be honest, I love it when I see a fixed date. Some information is time-dependent. Maybe I do move along when I see 2012. no time wasted here. That's a feature!

Isn’t an older copyright date preferable? Could do <start-year>-<current-year>.
