A couple of people I know are struggling with their rent payments. They might get evicted from their place in the next few months.

YNAB (You Need a Budget) made me feel less stressed about money while I was in grad school. It helped instill financial habits that I still use to this day.
The tool doesn't matter, the basic concept is just envelope budgeting. In the old days, people would budget for each category of expenses by putting money in different envelopes at the beginning of the month. The goal was to not spend through the entire envelope before the end of the month.
Over time, you start putting together next's month's envelope ahead of time, then the month after that...and soon you have a nice emergency fund.
