I know this isn’t a travel forum but this community has surprised me so much with awesome insights through the years.
Curious if anyone has reccomendations on things to do/see in Munich/Bavaria/Lauterbrunnen areas.
Depends greatly on the season and how long you have, but for a few tips:
Munich:
Cool little artist district with a boat railway bridge - https://maps.app.goo.gl/13Zjw2usCbvcsr1UA
Inner city surf wave with a great spectating spot - https://maps.app.goo.gl/Ha1EQBvRoG1dLoyw5
South of Munich:
Murnau is a beautiful town with great views of the alps, reachable via train, and there is a great resteraunt near protected wetlands I can recccommend - https://maps.app.goo.gl/m9317uf5j7qKw8ML6
Cheimsee is also beautiful, little islands with a castle on a lake and a beergarden - https://maps.app.goo.gl/ZbxWRT7cDh66nzbS7
Further into the Alps you can find Königsee which is stunning, has great hiking, and plenty of history - https://maps.app.goo.gl/6fXAN1KwP8PqmTHc7
If you're into snowsports then now is a great time to get into the mountains and rent some gear to have a fun day. For hiking it is probably better to wait for the snow to thaw and then do a hut to hut treck if you can.
As a note, I do not reccommend going to see the Disneyland Castle, a.k.a. Neuschwanstein. It'll involve lots of crowds, a rushed tour, and a mediocre experience overall.
Enjoy!
I visited zurich and lucerne last year and loved it, we had a hike and cog train trip around rigi kulm in the alps which had some breathtaking sights.
Zurich is excellent but expensive. You can do 3,4,5 days here especially if you plan a hike for one or two days up the alps.
For Bavaria i recommend a trip to Munich and then by train to nearby Salzburg in Austria. You really cant beat a bier keller and some paul anner, pretzels, and brautwerst and suarkraut,
You should do 2-3 days in Munich and 1-2 days in Salzburg.
Both places are beautiful with fantastic food, beer, and museums.
Many mid size cities along rivers like Donau/Isar/Inn are worth visiting like Regensburg (old historic city)/Passau/Rosenheim/Landshut/Augsburg.
Some of the lakes in southern part of Bavaria like Chiemsee (Fraueninsel)/Starnberg/Tegernsee have some charm.
I personally think Salzburg and Garmisch-Partenkirchen are special as the sit right at the foot of the alps.
Paragliding in Murren / Gimmelwald.
If you go up to the plateau near the Eiger make absolutely certain you don’t miss the last train down (don’t ask)
Via Farrata is popular in the area if you’re into it.
Lucerne might be a bit far but the Swiss Museum of Transport was one of my favorite museums anywhere if you’re into civil engineering.
South Bavaria has beautiful lakes! My favorite is eibsee, just google it. You can also use a lift from the eibsee to the top of the Zugspitze (highest mountain in Germany). Walchensee, Kochselsee, Tegernsee and Chiemsee are also great.
