CP/M was out before MS-DOS. CP/M provided a standard of 8-bit computers to share programs and data on floppy disks using the Intel 8080 or the Zilog Z80.
The Commodore 128 had a CP/M mode with a Z80 coprocessor on the motherboard and the 1571 floppy drive reading CP/M disks.
