I’d say long term use. If it’s going to be the same or a similar price over the course of X amount of years, you want a quality machine. Also, less waste.

As a software dev by trade I just kind of assume I am going to shell out a couple grand every few years for a nice laptop. For me it’s just the price of doing business.

The build quality on many of these machines is subpar, if not outright awful. Bad hinges, plastic casing, and cheap components mean there is a good chance these machines were designed to fail - right after that 1 year warranty expires, of course.<p>I have called this the enshittification of consumer products.
