Hi HN, I'm one of the creators of Realtime, I'm an engineer who has been working as a data journalist for a while now. A colleague and I built this with an aim of making it easy for people to enrich their news consumption with a source that is entirely data driven, to make public discourse more informed and help people better calibrate how the stories they read relate to the empirical reality. We're written up this thinking in a more detailed post [1].<p>We launched our beta this week and are following the independent publication / substack model. We use an LLM to write the headlines, Vega for the charts, and did a lot of fun data engineering to make all of the storage and analysis of the timeseries performant on the backend.
