It’s a pleasure to see western media writing Kyiv correctly, not as it was before, the incorrect Russian spelling you might encounter everywhere.<p>It took time for masses to learn, but it feels more widespread now than it was just two years ago. I personally participated in online comments to draw attention to the issue and telling to English-speaking communities that its correct spelling matters to Ukrainians. There will be people who will widespread the ‘who cares, it was Kiev since a gazillion years ago’ Russian narrative— but it matters to many Ukrainians, and it’s a part of their fight for their independence and a sovereign country they have.<p>So thank you everyone who uses the correct spelling as well.
