Drew Houstons[0][1][2] response is problematic. If they wanted to get to the bottom of this being true or not, they have the resources to do it on effectively a whim by asking their team to look into its veracity.
Rubs me the wrong way that they aren't proactively saying "we will look into the veracity of these claims", instead their response puts the impetus on the person / people most affected and thus may feel they be in worse circumstances if they say anything in the first place.
[0]: CEO of Dropbox
[1]: https://x.com/drewhouston/status/1760813498819568012?s=20
[2]: Screenshot in case of deletion https://imgur.com/a/VVldAwQ
I've seen this sort of PR bullying happening before, it sucks. Also heard from colleagues.
It sucks even more when it's your manager that is suggesting you to analyze risks forever, or adding more process so you ship less.
I bet this is happening quite often in the latest layoff cycle.
I take it as a life goal to not ever let this happen where I work.
daily reminder that you are probably not cynical enough about your job:
https://www.ribbonfarm.com/2009/10/07/the-gervais-principle-...
This post was marked dead. Maybe because its a twitter link, maybe because we don't want to talk about Dropbox. Vouched for it.
If true its pretty bad but I would add that it does not seem that rare or new. Blind is a cesspit of people and the posts that show up there are generally pretty disgusting.
At the end of this, the company is in tatters, folks are shells of their former selves, and $manager gets a promo. The f*cking psychopathy. I'm anxious for them, and in horror.
