Ask HN: Possible to build an AI version of Wordfeud?

1 pointsby robbiejsover 1 year ago
Hello HN,
I used to play Scrabble with my mother (Dutch version) and I would lay words that in my imaginitive mind exist, but that would never be in a dictionary.
Imagine a scenario where I want to extend the word "katten" (cats):
---
kattenpoep (cat poo) would be approved
kattenpis (cat pee) would be approved as well
kattenspeeltje (cat toy) would probably be approved too.
---
These words are common enough for Wordfeud and my mother to approve them.
However, if I extend the word "katten" like this:
---
kattengrappen (jokes about cats)
kattentransport (cat transport)
kattenpolitie (cat police)
---
These words will not be accepted by Wordfeud or my mom. These words are rare and quirky but valid in my opinion.
Is there an AI/API available that would test an input like "kattengrappen" to check if it "could be a valid word"? Not by using a word dictionary, but by using API.
Are the AIs/APIs available for this purpose and could they be used to create a free-to-play game?
I'd love to hear your ideas!
RobbieJS
