Ask HN: Alternative to Google for Health Questions

1 pointsby zephyrthenobleabout 1 year ago
I recently had a headache, and wanted to take ibuprofen to help. I realized I had drank grapefruit juice a few hours before. This is what I searched for on Google: &quot;can you take advil with grapefruit juice&quot;. If you do that search yourself, you will see that the AI generated blurb is questionable at best, and the featured snippet talks about acetaminophen, not ibuprofen or the brand name Advil. Most of the rest of the page references acetaminophen or other medications, and their interactions with grapefruit juice, not ibuprofen. Some of the pages are obviously AI generated and might contain incorrect information.<p>I have found that Google has been returning more and more bad results, such as tangentially related results or AI generated pages with no information or citations. This is especially worrisome when I search for medical information. Does anyone have any tips or tricks to get Google to respond in a helpful way, or maybe a recommendation for a different search engine when looking for medical information?
