Ask HN: Why are there almost no English telegram channels?

3 pointsby ibaikovabout 1 year ago
There are so many Russian, Ukrainian, Indian and Asian channels in telegram where people get news, read blogs or subscribe to updates from different companies. At the same time, there are almost none English channels. Same goes for WhatsApp channels - there are no English ones. Why is that?

I think this is because all the countries you listed are ruled by authoritarian regimes with restrictions on freedom of speech. In these countries, people trust Telegram much more than the official media.<p>This has led to the creation of a habit among the population to primarily use Telegram, respectively, it is more profitable to make a channel in Telegram, and it will have a greater audience coverage than in other media.
