In the USA is it now illegal for vendors to email statements as PDF attachments?

2 pointsby cageyabout 1 year ago
I recall, in years past, getting monthly statements from e.g. utilities as email PDF attachments.
Now, it seems many/most vendors are reluctant or incapable of doing this, instead forcing me to either (a) visit their (especially if small-time) increasingly shitty website to download the same statement PDFs, or (b) switch back to getting paper bills in snail mail. (b) intrinsically sucks, and (a) is becoming increasingly annoying as resume-driven development (and/or management incompetence) seems to be driving website "change for the sake of change" redesigns chock full of functional regressions (basically: change which suggests that those doing the redesign did not even bother to inform themselves about the capabilities and functionality of the website they are replacing, and blithely discarding same).
Is there some recent law or standard that has eliminated the straightforward practice of emailing e.g. utility statements?
