Nvidia didn't get where it is by following some magic set of rules. Success came from:
1. FAILURE: After Silicon Graphics went tits-up, as part of the linux-tsunami which killed all unix workstation companies, some of the refugees formed Nvidia. Silicon graphics had all kinds of cool technology, so at least they didn't have to start from zero.
2. HANGING IN THERE: they managed to find a niche in graphics chips/cards. For 2 decades it wasn't even a particularly profitable niche, and it had stiff competition.
3. DUMB LUCK: LLMs are another tsunami, but this time in favor of the kinds of chips Nvidia makes. If LLMs hadn't come along, Nvidia would still just be hanging in there.
Success is basically picking yourself up again one more time than you get knocked down, until you finally have the winning lottery ticket. It's not some magic set of rules which you religiously follow.
