I want to be excited about it, but we'll really need more details apart from Qualcomm allowing it to exist (they're... problematic with long-term support <a href="https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2021/03/the-fairphone-2-hits-five-years-of-updates-with-some-help-from-lineageos/" rel="nofollow">https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2021/03/the-fairphone-2-hits...</a> ) and performance being "great, just look at this object detection". They had the opportunities to drop a number from any benchmark they want... and they didn't. That's worrying.
They say that you can't run Linux on M-series Macbooks because of Apple's closed ecosystem... but that's trivially false? Apparently this guy's not heard of Asahi. You can absolutely buy something like an M1 MBA and daily drive Linux on it. I think you need to keep a MacOS partition around and boot into it to update device firmware and such though.
