Ask HN: Best way to avoid media and tech news and staying relevant?

1 pointsby server_man3000about 1 year ago
Reflecting on a vacation right now and wondering best ways to avoid mainstream tech news/social media and still stay relevant.
Moreso interested in people who have these ideologies, but still succeed in staying competitive and knowledgeable in new trends/science. Competitive being raw knowledge in necessary topics in the field and not competitive in the sense that you grinded leetcode for a job.
Social media wise, I’m referring to avoiding news sites focused on technology/things that require my attention on a screen.
Overall goal: reduce screen time. And no, I don’t have a smartphone.

You can safely ignore the news without losing your relevance. Nothing important will happen so fast in the tech world that a few weeks or months ignoring the news will leave you behind. If anything actually important happens you will hear about it from other people.
