> "Walmart said it was a “difficult decision,” but its health care push was not profitable for the company because of the “challenging reimbursement environment and escalating operating costs.”
Shocking... healthcare turns out to be harder than the bean counters anticipated. Primary care is a tough nut to crack even when operating on a shoestring budget with mid-level providers.
This is disappointing. I think we need more clinic options, and Walmarts are everywhere.
Perhaps Walmart could restart health care on a smaller scale, with nurse practitioner consultations in a pay-as-you go model, similar their (successful) optometrist services.
Hopefully CVS/Aetna will continue and expand its clinic options.
