Much of the NIMBY thinking sounds the thinking behind HOAs - I don’t want poor people or low income folks to live near me.<p>The idea their old cars, or cars in work are an eyesore, they paint their house a bad color, or they all play loud music, do drugs and bring crime, it will lower my house value keep them away. It’s all very selfish in a country where people are supposedly allowed to have a pursuit of happiness.<p>I find it’s mostly upper middle class trying to isolate themselves like the rich can, but they don’t have enough money to buy enough land or be in areas that cost so much they limit who really can be in the area.<p>It’s very American, me me me
