Hopefully we can get some interested people in some other countries. Having a vast majority of semiconductor production in Taiwan is a huge risk. Diversifying the supply chain would be good.<p>As for work/life balance. If you're going to not have it, your 20s are a good time for it. The energy and drive is there, and the outside obligations generally aren't. I worked a ton in my 20s and 30s, maybe too much, but I didn't have anything better to do and it put me in a decent spot in my late 30s and early 40s, where I could afford to let off the gas a little.
Everyone lacks passionate workers for the semiconductor industry - it is hard, unforgiving work, which nevertheless require a high skill/education level. US cannot find or make these workers, so import thousands from Taiwan. Now Taiwan can find them either, so need to import them again from elsewhere. There is a reason why this type of work was offshored in the first place, the people who can do it would more often like to do something else.
