We pay for it, it produces junk thats kind of funny. Nobody uses it for an actual productive use because we cant/wont hire anyone that could make even a remotely usable custom model. So we pay a lot, use some buzzwords and get shit in return.

Okay, anecdotal data point: I have a friend who works as a part time translator for books and other documents. She said she heard about it's existence from news but never tried to use it.

The use of language models like GPT has spread beyond the technology sector in recent years. Some applications in non-tech industries include: finance, health, education, customer services, manufacturing and public sector. While there are still challenges to overcome, such as adapting to specific domains and ensuring security and privacy, the use of GPT and other language models is becoming increasingly common in a wide range of industries beyond the technology sector.
