Ask HN: Why Are Most 3D Design Tools So Difficult for Beginners?

3 pointsby xspiralabout 1 year ago
I've been trying out various 3D design tools like Blender and Fusion 360, and while they're incredibly powerful, they seem really tough for beginners. It takes so much time and effort just to get the basics down. Anyone else feel the same way? How did you overcome the steep learning curve?

All of these tools like 3d modeling or photo editing have common tools that you have to learn and understand. For example: probably all 3d modeling tools have concepts like verticies and object faces, etc. And then there are common tools like extend/grow (or something) where you can expand 2d square into a cube. You just have to understand concepts, tools that are available and where to find them in this or that piece of software.

Blender: I remember it was hard because it kind of relied on shortcuts a lot. Fusion 360: you have to find where what you want to do is located.
I tried 3ds max in high school: the easiest 3d modeling software i ever tried. I actually created some pictures, models and animations with it.
That’s just my experience.
Try Tinkercad.

Give https://spline.com/ a try.
Wonderful tool for 3d visual design, and a good entry point into the concepts of the bigger programs like Blender IMO
