I support this idea. This whole nonsense that kids need a phone at school so parents can contact them or an emergency is nonsense. It ignores the hundreds of years of successful schooling when cell phones weren't a thing.<p>My daughter did go to school in the age of cell phones, but we never gave her one. We did have a family emergency, and we simply called the school told them there was an emergency and we were coming to get our daughter and she needed to be outside and ready to be picked up in 10 minutes. No details were requested or given only identifying that we were indeed the parents. You know what, they pulled her from class and she was ready when we got there. Very simple process.
When I was at the school, there was already enough distractions during class even without smartphones around. Can't even imagine the chaos it must be now.
