Ask HN: How to Infra/Pricing for Single Tenant B2B SaaS

2 pointsby thenaturalist12 months ago
Hi there, I’m building a B2B SaaS app for a use cases which makes multi-tenant infra impossible.
Other than that, I just need a DB and a (serverless) runtime.
Looking at cloud prices, the managed DB always comes in as the highest cost factor.
The initial target audience will be data teams who are not infra-savy or familiar with IaaC.
In such a scenario, what are norms or best practices?
Have customers create the required infra themselves and just charge for my license?
Do a mix of consulting for infra setup and then license fees?
Or do all infra by myself, peer VPCs to clients and charge slight premiums on the infra?
Or is there any other way I am missing how I could optimize cost in a single tenant scenario?
For context, I’m a bootstrapped solo dev and plan to keep it that way, max working with freelancers for specific optimizations.
EDIT: Also interested in record for serveless Postgres, but haven’t seen feature parity in most offerings like Neon or CockroachDB.
