Elon Musk says he will ban iPhone and other Apple devices

His take seemed faulty immediately after the keynote, and it seems sillier the more that's reported about the no cash OpenAI deal.
OpenAI offered to Apple the same thing they offer to the public for free, chat with chatGPT 4o, in exchange for Apple mentioning them in a keynote and optionally linking to them, apparently in hopes of getting signups. They're reportedly just first of many LLM providers to handle what Apple calls "world knowledge" requests that "Apple Intelligence" doesn't want to handle, and handoff is disabled by default, requires additional user approval before each and every proxied handoff to OpenAI. Requests come from random Akamai/Cloudflare addresses (rather than user IPs), and provide no additional context info beyond the bare question itself, which openAI is contractually required not to use or store outside of the immediate reply. These are the sort of requests Siri presently answers unhelpfully with Google search results and a "here's what I found on the web." OpenAI swaps in for Google.
It's also interesting that Apple seems to be using a relatively minor deal, that's on par with the defunct ancient Twitter integration into the share sheet, to imply they're on top of all things AI and not playing catch up, but at the same time, keeping it arms length so they're insulated from chatGPT's (and eventually Gemini's) inevitable embarrassing hallucinations.

Is Elon just attention seeking again or does he know something we don't?
"Requests are not stored by OpenAI, and users’ IP addresses are obscured" - from OpenAI.

Also what alternate does he propose? Android or his own xfone?

Was he hoping for Apple would strike a deal with xAI?
