The author's claim that Kurzweil has been "right" the first time--or is <i>about</i> to be proven right <i>any year now</i>--seems pretty shaky.<p>> In the age of generative AI, [human-level general intelligence by 2029] seems conventional, if not conservative.<p>The author thinks I'm <i>hyper-</i>conservative? Counter-proposal: The author is caught up in an industry hype-train which is profitable for journalists covering tech.<p>The current exuberance over LLMs is <i>interesting</i> in many ways, but that does not fulfill those grandiose predictions of a new cybernetic species.<p>It's easy for anybody to make a package of interesting and proven predictions... Where the proven predictions are not interesting, and the interesting predictions are not proven.
