A model where you can tip for an article (value4value style or otherwise) is what works best in the long run, I think .<p>&gt; <i>When a publisher implements a paywall, it can expect traffic to drop. But when it removes a paywall, its traffic could take years to rebound, as it takes time for consumers to realize that the publisher has made its content available.</i><p>I can’t overstate how frustrating it is to open a link, say on HN, and be unable to ready the article because the news outlet any letting me. This creates frustration. It will take years to win back these readers.
