It's why I've never allowed automatic updates on any Windows systems I've been responsible for.
When Microsoft mandated automatic updates and users couldn't easily disable the update service, etc. I've taken to Windows with a Linux boot disk and simply nuked the components critical for the update service to work.
This nonsense would soon come to a stop if governments mandated that Microsoft and others who acted similarly compensate users for the downtime and disruption they've suffered.
I'd hope this incident would wake up governments to act but I'm cynical enough to know Big Tech has the money, power and means to thwart any such action.
(BTW, for clarification, whilst initially a CloudStike issue, I prohibit software updates of any kind that will patch or alter kernel or boot processes until proven safe, that includes any software or updates that require the OS to be rebooted. That means manual intervention at all times.)
