Tell HN: iLovePDF's Dark UX Patterns

1 pointsby salesynerd10 months ago
I had subscribed to iLovePDF last year. Recently, while going through my credit card transactions, I was surprised to find that they had automatically renewed my subscription.
I had not received any email reminders and/or an invoice. Hence, I reached out to them and requested a refund.
Their Customer Support staff gave me a form reply that I'm not eligible for the refund in line with their terms and conditions. For the same reason, they were not obligated to give me an advance intimation of the renewal charge.
This experience has left such a bad taste in my mouth. Legally, they may be in clear but how about ethically and morally.
We often blame big companies for not carrying for their customers. But it seems that small companies may also be doing the same.
Anyways, I have learnt my lesson. Just wanted to share that it's a case of "buyer beware" with iLovePDF.
