OpenVMS x86_64 at the Edge

What does “the edge” mean here? It seems to have something to do with Atom CPUs to this project. What is OpenVMS and why is it interesting for it to run on Atom CPUs?

When I saw the train setup I was like, Nerd alert. And I love stuff like this.
