Where is the FBI? The FBI is like white on rice when it comes to ransomware, crypto mixers, dark web, or hacks, but what about YouTube giveaway scams or deep fakes? I am sure they must be aware of this problem, given how many Americans have been scammed and have presumably reported the losses? Or is this a grey area in which because the victim sent the money, instead of was hacked, that somehow it's harder to prosecute these cases? Even though the scammers are overseas, the FBI can still put out a statement acknowledging it. Russians overseas have still been charged in ransomware cases even if they cannot be arrested.<p>YouTube scammers make more $ with giveaway scams compared to hacks or ransomware. Fraudulent livestream run under the radar, compared to ransomware, which gets too much media attention, resulting in tainted crypto and unwanted press. Also, YouTube is to blame for allowing these scam videos to run and allowing the channels to be hacked and repurposed to run scams. If youtube treated scam videos like other illegal content the videos would be gone overnight and for good.
