Ask HN: Advice on time-series database shortlist

1 pointsby petecooper9 months ago
I'm using Netdata on some small-scale servers, and I'm considering the pros and cons of adding a time-series database into the mix for longer-term logging.
I have zero experience with time-series databases, and the list of compatible engines is rather overwhelming at this stage:
https://learn.netdata.cloud/docs/exporting-metrics/exporting-quickstart#supported-databases
I'm running Debian 12 on Hetzner & DigitalOcean, so I can remove the Azure- and AWS-focussed items on that list. I don't use Docker or other containers in production, so I can go through 'Guess Who?' style and remove some more potentials, but beyond that I'm not sure how best to proceed aside from 'learning by doing'.
Given the list of vendors, products & connection methods - and factoring in your experiences - are there any you'd recommend shortlisting, or alternatively giving a wide berth?
Thank you.
