Ask HN: What alternate career is possible for Software Engineers?

3 pointsby byebyetech9 months ago
I have been working as Software Engineer for over 15 years. Last 6 years at Google. I was laid off a year ago and no matter how well the interviews go I get rejection. Interviews have also become much harder than few years ago. Asking LeetCode hard even for tech screening is very common. I feel like I am fighting a losing battle staying in Software Engineering field where standards to get hired are getting ridiculously high by the day. 10 years ago questions were 10 times easier. Now even a no name companies are expecting 7 rounds of interviews. I think I am done. I am looking to get into alternate career. What are some of the fields I can try without re-educating myself? I am ok with lower salary.

I know a number of software engineers who have gone on to teach high school C.S. or math classes, mostly at private schools or special magnet tech schools. They don't make as much money, but seem to be happier and can have summers off.
