There needs to be an open standard for cards of all types utilizing some sort of challenge-response authentication, maybe over the NFC chip. Especially since Apple is now allowing developers open access to the NFC hardware. We are allowing dangerous levels of privatization over our digital infrastructure.<p>I should be able to add my debit card to ANY phone, using ANY app, with or without any particular core services. Anything short of this is antitrust.<p>&gt; But a malicious app could take your money!<p>So could a malicious website. Or a malicious 7&#x2F;11. Or a malicious passenger sitting next to me on the train. This is no different. If something weird happens, my bank will send me a text, like they already do.
