The promise of local / alternative currencies has never been really fulfilled despite many valiant efforts over decades.<p>The comparison with speculative crypto that has become a major trend while coming out of nowhere and being basically empty of any economic substance is sobering.<p>Somehow we need monetary tools that can both survive the dominance of official currency, create real value for depressed parts of the economy and not be intrinsically ponzi schemes...
