I thought this paragraph was really interesting:

Another factor promoting the building of new homes is tax: the valuation of land and buildings for property taxes, or rates, paid to local councils declines over time, which increases the incentive for the councils to approve new houses to get their rates back up.

The New Zealand section is a bit outdated:
1: Christchurch gone gangbusters with new homes after the earthquake
2: Wellington is completely fucked
New Zealand has 30% population of immigrants so there is an immense pressure on housing supply.
It’s absurd how out of control house prices have gotten in the UK, and it's almost like the solution is to make everyone homeless. Homelessness won’t be an issue if no one can afford a home, right? Just wait, in a few months we’ll probably see some ridiculous article like, “I voluntarily became homeless and it changed my life!” featuring someone like Suze, who sold her £30 million Kensington penthouse and now “roughs it” on a yacht. It's the kind of tone-deaf story that makes the real housing crisis feel even more surreal.
