Ask HN: Best plan for some mobile data for a week?

1 pointsby oddevan8 months ago
So we got hit by Hurricane Helene. Not as badly as western North Carolina, but enough to knock out power and internet. And there’s every chance the power comes back before internet does. So:
Does anyone have a go-to place to get some mobile data that doesn’t involve a monthly plan? (If not, anyone know the easiest plan to cancel after the first month?) I’m hoping to use the second eSIM slot on my phone to keep from using up the data on my existing plan _again_.

You just need a prepaid plan from anyone. Typically the MVNOs offer better deals than the major carriers.
In the postpaid world, I use Google Fi and love it, but I don't think they have a prepaid plan (easy to cancel though). I also tried USMobile (https://www.usmobile.com/) and they were OK. Cheap but kinda a hassle.
Starlink also has a free trial, if you want something that doesn't depend on local cell towers being up.
