The problem is personalized advertising.
The solution is context sensitive advertising.
Period, the end.
The ad industry fears and resists this (in my opinion) because it is less conducive to their monopolization efforts. They maintain that personalized ads are more effective and thus command premium pricing.
Several factors for advertisers to consider 1) any data in this regard is suspect since it is fully under the control of the ad networks and 2) more than half of internet users now take active steps to block the insanity of "personalization" 3) the solutions being proposed and supported by the ad networks are mostly aimed at obscuring the fact that "personalization" is the problem 4) Amazon continues to grab an ever bigger chunk of the ad networks lunch using simple context sensitive ads.
Until a real solution is offered, I will continue to resist and block this "personalized" stupidity to the best of my ability.
