Ask HN: Have You Ever Wanted to Write a Book?

3 pointsby arcknighttech7 months ago
Just curious is a recent stat that said 80% of people do want to write a book but never do, holds up.

Not for an adult audience. It seems to me that we have way too many books (check the selection at an average large book store), so it is hard for your book to stand out. Additionally, physical books are becoming less popular. It seems simpler to build an audience using a different medium (like blogging/twitter) and then convert that content into a book afterwards.
I do want to write a children's book. Physical kids' books are still going strong. But I expect it would be a financial loss.

I've written a book.
Not a good use of my time, financially speaking.
As for 80% of people wanting to write a book, that's hard to take seriously. Barely half of Americans read even one book a year.

Yes, and I've actually written a couple (one fiction and one nonfiction for pre-teens).

I have written a book already. I'm no Stephen King I need help with editing but cannot afford to pay an editor.
