One of the author’s points - that there’s a feedback loop here - is certainly true, but I do not think its helpful to conflate “low willpower” and procrastination with laziness; there’s another feedback loop here, where it is theorized that negative self-talk/criticism is psychologically harmful, and self-compassion can benefit mental health and potentially has positive neurobiological impact (neuroplasticity, lower cortisol).
I find it really interesting that ideas we (I) would have labeled “woo-woo” 20 years ago are being proven to have biological bases, to the point that my health insurance pays for what is essentially mindful meditation - and it works. And this is not only interesting, but frightening: learning that “the self” is more neurons than soul-stuff, and that we can rent compute-hours on brain organoids, makes me wonder if OpenAI and friends are actually on their way to creating Life.
