I’m trying to figure out the angle here, given the timing. Had the donation come straight from MM,it would feel like a shallow attempt to save face (albeit in-line with his recent behavior). Coming from the foundation looks better on the face of it, curious to know what benefits it gets them regarding taxes etc.
Also, while quite a lot more $ than I have handy, $100k isn’t a lot for IA but is A LOT for WPF…according to Wikipedia, IA’s 2019 operating budget was $37 million. According to WPF’s website, they consistently spend more than they bring in (as you’d want from a non-profit).
I don’t know enough to make heads or tails of any of this, but it is interesting. TFA is lacking in details on where exactly WPF got this money, and considering (again) that they have spent more than they’ve made the last couple of years (I didn’t look further back), and the timing, it feels a little smelly.

Amusing, given that the Internet Archive and the Wordpress Foundation are both major non-profits whose mission has been jeopardized by executives picking fights.

That's why advisors get paid the big bucks
