> Toys "R" Us ... only to find themselves losing out to stores with even bigger inventories
That left out the other big factor, 'The company was further hampered by a significant debt load, the result of a leveraged buyout organized by private equity firms, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, Bain Capital and real estate firm Vornado.' (quoting https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toys_%22R%22_Us).
> But that has left us with an ever-increasing number of options.
Yet none of the choices include things like "how strong are labor rights throughout the supply chain?", "is the company involved in union busting?", "how much are the claims of sustainable harvesting really just greenswashing?", and "how durable is this product?"
My tuppence!
Billed as a time saver and convenience for the modern family, turns out it is absolutely useless. Spend more time sorting out their incompetence than getting any products on time.
The cost of 100 deliveries each year at £5 plus for each delivery adds up to an astonishing amount of money on top of the cost of buying stuff online. £500 spent on time wasting deliveries that are never on time or arrive when they say they are.
"Dear sir, we will be delivering your parcel between 8:00am and 14:00pm". Then another email at 13:45pm. "Dear sir, we will be delivering your parcel between 14:00am and 20:00pm". On and On it goes!
So convenient waiting around all day for that personalised delivery service.
I was sick and tired of constantly being signed up to these companies and then having to remove myself from the email list. The constant emails reminding me of dire price reduced products.
What that must be like for a non techy person! Their email inbox must be stuffed with shite.
Then there is the returning issue if an item is damaged. Spend my petrol money and valuable time faffing about dropping it off at the preferred location pick up point some 5 miles away from where I live. More petrol and my valuable free time wasted.
I am sick of delivery drivers being unable to find my home, yes you Yodel, then getting an email saying my delivery has been sent back to the seller. Then I have to go to the store in the local town centre to arrange for a delivery to the store but the last time I tried that it took more than three weeks and eventually I got an email saying my money had been refunded. More petrol and my valuable free time wasted yet again.
The Pihut delivered a damaged raspberry pi 7" screen cable and wanted me to drive miles and send it back to them before they would replace the damaged item even though I sent them close up photos of the damaged cable. All for the sake of a 75p cable. Won't use then ever again! Expected me to use my petrol and my valuable free time to send back a damaged item!
I dont bother now!
I save up and go on a long weekend shopping to London and make an enjoyable day of shopping.
I walk around London nice and relaxed, had a coffee, had lunch, and bought a new pair of Doc Martens and a new pair of levi's, some new socks and pants and T-Shirts. All for under £500 I spent on deliveries last year. No hassle, no annoying emails or delivery drivers.
What happend to those lovely high streets we used to be so proud of. Where we met our friends and shopped together?
Someone is making a hell of a lot of money for providing a Shite service.
